Gionee India Approach - Classic Example of Strategic and Tactical maneuvering of its CEO Mr. Arvind Vohra


Gionee is one the premium and established brand in India by now. In the beginning, India Head of Gionee Mr.Arvind Vohra went through the distributor model without holding any inventory to make sure that Gionee Smartphone goes into the market place. He positioned Gionee as an alternative of Motorola or Samsung or Sony while maintaining the high quality of the product along with the differentiated feature set. 

Even during the peak of E-Commerce model, he stuck to his tactical strategy of maintaining very strong relationship with retailers and distributor by using his unmatched consumer behavior understanding and was aware that the wave of E-Commerce will die down the moment funding goes down for them.

His strategic decision of retail segment helped him to win the heart and mind of the retailer and distributor and they started promoting Gionee in big way. He also used Make in India initiative  and quickly collaborated with Foxconn to manufacture Smartphone in India. More importantly, Gionee wasted no time in rolling out series of high end device which they launched it through Online E-Commerce companies as well low to medium range device which they targeted towards the retail segment. The tactical movement of Arvind repositioned brand Gionee in India. It is expected that with the launch of series of Smartphone covering all segment is going to help them grab the market share in coming quarter.
